IIMA has evolved from being Indias premier management institute to a notable international school of management in just four decades. It all started with Dr. Vikram Sarabhai and a few spirited industrialists realising that agriculture, education, health, transportation, population control, energy and public administration were vital elements in a growing society, and that it was necessary to efficiently manage these industries.

The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC)/ Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Differently Abled (DA) category, this is relaxed to 45%], of any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India. The Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent. The percentage obtained by the candidate in the bachelor’s degree would be based on the practice followed by the university/institution from where the candidate has obtained the degree.In case of the candidates being awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the equivalence would be based on the equivalence certified by the university/ institution from where they have obtained bachelor's degree. In case the university/ institution does not have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by IIM Ahmedabad by dividing obtained CGPA with the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the resultant with 100.
Candidates appearing for the final year bachelor’s degree / equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirement and are awaiting results can also apply.

Selection Criteria

The selection of candidates for admission to the 2014-16 batch of the PGP at IIM Ahmedabad is a two-step process.
In the first step, candidates are short-listed for written analysis and personal interviews from among candidates who have a valid CAT/GMAT score* who have applied for the programme and who satisfy the eligibility criteria for the programme. An overseas category candidate who applies with a GMAT score instead of a CAT score should have a total scaled score of at least 700.

Stage 1: Generation of merit list for Written Analysis and Personal Interview (WA-PI) for PGP programme.
Stage 1a: The following cutoffs shown in Table 1 will be used for selecting eligible candidates for all subsequent stages. Therefore, the CAT score is the sole criterion for arriving at the first short-list.

Stage 1b: To recognise exceptional performers across diverse academic backgrounds, from each of the five categories of academic disciplines, top 50 candidates or top 1% of the number of applicants to IIM Ahmedabad within each category-- whichever is lower -- will be identified. These candidates will be directly shortlisted for the WA-PI on the basis of their total scores from CAT 2013, provided they also meet the criterion mentioned in Stage 1a.
However, selection at the final stage (Stage 2) for the candidates short-listed at this stage and all other short-listed candidates (at Stage 1c) will strictly be based only on ranks on the Aggregate Score (based on CAT/GMAT, Academic Rating (AR) and (WA-PI Scores) within each category specified in Table 1.
This stage, 1b, is only applicable to candidates who are applying for admissions on the basis of their CAT scores. Please note that this stage, 1b, is not applicable for the candidates eligible to be considered using the GMAT scores.
Stage 1c: Application Rating: The application rating looks at the applicants’ academic performance (marks obtained) in 10th Standard Examination, 12th Standard Examination and Bachelor’s Degree Examination. For 10th and 12th Standards: The eligible applicants, as obtained in stage 1a above, will be assigned rating scores ‘A’ and ‘B’ based on their percentage of marks obtained in 10th and 12th standard examinations respectively.
For Bachelor’s Degree: The eligible applicants as obtained in stage 1a above, will be assigned a rating score ‘C’ based on the percentage of marks received in the Bachelor’s degree.

Fee Structure

No tuition fee is charged for Indian students. Selected candidates will get a monthly stipend of Rs.25,000/- per month for the first and second year, Rs. 27,000 per month after clearing the comprehensive exam and Rs. 30,000 per month after submission of the TAC approved thesis proposal. Over and above this, a Contingency Allowance of Rs. 25,000 per year (for five years) to cover research expenses, expenses on books, photocopying etc. and reimbursement of internationational conference upto Rs. 1,75,000 are also available to all students.
However, the fee for overseas candidate is $ 20,500 for first year and $ 21,500 for the remaining years.

Fee Structure for PGDM
Fees and other charges for 15-month PGDM (General Management) will be approximately Rs. 15,00,000/- (or equivalent in $ US) for the academic year 2014 - 2015. Food, electricity and other personal expenses would be charged extra depending on the type of accommodation preferred by the student. Fee may change next session based on the recommendation of Fee Fixation Committee.


The 103 acres campus flanks two sides of a main road. The two sides are connected by an underpass, which houses a unique IIMA photo gallery. The heritage campus of about 64 acres includes an academic complex of classrooms and seminar rooms, an auditorium, the well-equipped Vikram Sarabhai Library, a computer centre, faculty and administrative offices, 18 student dormitories, the Kasturbhai Lalbhai Management Development Centre for executive education, faculty and staff residences, a gymnasium and sports complex. The new campus of 39 acres includes 11 dormitories, 5 classrooms, 4 seminar rooms, 8 syndicate rooms, accommodation for married students, an administration block and an International Management Development Centre.
